Explore comfort
from the ground up.
A concept for a 50-foot air duct run buried six feet underground, bringing air into the space after it travels through the buried section.
50 feet long. Six feet deep.
These are the starting dimensions for the proposed concept, subject to a site-specific design review. The duct is buried in soil, not under water.
Why we are doing this
Our aim is to ease the heating or cooling needed before air reaches the living space, so the other home-comfort improvements can work together more effectively. We are exploring whether this approach can help tenants stay comfortable with lower energy use; performance and savings have not been established.
The proposed air path
The concept starts with an outdoor air intake, follows a 50-foot buried duct, and rises into the space. The goal is to temper incoming air before it reaches the room. The route and dimensions are a proposal, not installation instructions.
Design comes before digging
A qualified project team needs to establish site suitability, soil and groundwater conditions, utility locations, duct material and size, airflow, filtration, moisture management, cleaning access, and the connection to the building. Excavation and installation details require a site-specific plan.
Where the project stands
This is a service concept available for project discussion. The buried-air system needs design and performance evaluation before an installation can be offered for a particular home. No temperature target, airflow rate, or energy savings is promised.
